NASD hires boys volleyball coach aide, special education, substitutes
The Northampton Area School District School Board has voted to hire an assistant boys volleyball coach.
David Faust will share the assistant coach stipend, $2,204.25, with no benefits, pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NASD and NAEA effective for the 2013-14 school year.
The NASD board also voted by unanimous voice and roll call vote at the Feb. 24 meeting to approve, at the recommendation of the NASD administration Katie Williams, special education instructional assistant at Northampton Area High School, effective Feb. 25, pending receipt of updated clearances, at a rate of $10.77 per hour, 80 percent of the hourly rate, with benefits;
Sean George, short -term substitute English teacher at Northampton Area High School, effective retroactive to Jan. 2 through March 28 at a rate of $18.02 per hour, without benefits;
Megan Zastko, short-term substitute special tducation teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective retroactive to Feb, 4 through the end of the 2013-14 school year, at a rate of $21.62 per hour, without benefits;
Extending unpaid childrearing leave for Laura Costantini through the 2013-14 school year, with no benefits;
Paid childbearing leave for Neali Feimster, beginning on or about April 7 through May 23, and an FMLA Childrearing Leave, with no pay, but with benefits, per federal government regulations, on or about May 27 through the end of the 2013-14 school year;
Unpaid FMLA childrearing leave for Tara Mushko, Feb. 19 through March 28, with benefits, per federal government regulations;
Additions and deletions to the substitute listing for the 2013-14 school year;
Additions to the district volunteer master listing for the 2013-14 school year: Jeffrey Bernhard, athletic; Jessica Cupples, George Wolf Elementary School; Jason Kocher, athletic; Chelsea Lubenesky, athletic;
Extra-curricular staff member and stipend for the 2013-14 school year for Ann Savkova, Drama Club Advisor, Northampton Area High School, $985.18 (pro-rated);
Memorandums of Agreement between the Northampton Area School District and the Northampton Area Educational Support Personnel Association; Teamsters Local Union 773, Custodial Staff; Teamsters Local Union 773, Maintenance Staff; Confidential Employees; and Act 93 Administrators;
Adoption of policies, effective Feb. 25: 143 - Standards for Persistently Dangerous Schools, 218 - Student Discipline, 222 - Tobacco Use, and 707 - Use of School Buildings, Facilities and Equipment;
Adoption of a resolution authorizing school board officers or the administration and solicitor to file a tax exemption appeal to classify a property, 1601 Lincoln Avenue, Northampton, as exempt from real estate taxes;

At the March 24 meeting, school board members, by voice vote and roll call votes of 8-0, with one director absent, approved, at the recommendation of the administration:
Staff members and compensation for intramural basketball programs at Moore Elementary School for the 2013-14 school year at $11.50 per hour: Brian Muschlitz, Nicole Cramer, Ann Haldaman-Dremock, Hillary Hartzell (substitute) and Erik Tracy (substitute);
Spanish interpreter services for special needs students at a cost not to exceed $10,000, funded through Access funds for two years;
Adoption of policies, effective March 25: 220 - Student Expression-Distribution and Posting of Material; 913 - Special Interest Group-Individual Participation in the School Setting, and 913.1 - Flyer-Information Distribution;
Five-year service agreement with Stericycle, Northbrook, Ill., to pick up NASD bio-hazard waste for 11 pickups annually at $135 per month, effective April 1 through March 31, 2019;
Three-year service agreement with Garaventa Lift, Sharon Hill, Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2016, to inspect, clean, lubricate and adjust the wheelchair lift at Moore Elementary School and three wheelchair lifts at Lehigh Elementary School at an annual cost of $275 per lift;
Two-year, 0 percent increase air-conditioning service agreement beginning April 1 with Elliott-Lewis Corp., Nazareth: Northampton Area Middle School, 230-ton unit, $2,760, annually; Northampton Area High School, two 400-ton units, $4,224, annually; Col. John Siegfried Elementary School, 185-ton unit, $2,196, annually; and George Wolf Elementary School, 170-ton unit, $2,196, annually;
Public-Private Attachment License Agreement with PPL Electric Utilities for nine poles, $173.97, annually, included in the board-approved 2013-14 technology services budget;
Settlement of the tax assessment appeal filed by Mulberry Properties L.P. for Tax Parcel No. K6NW4D-3-1-0503 in the Borough of Bath, pursuant to the stipulation of counsel and authorize the NASD solicitor to execute the stipulation of counsel on behalf of NASD, effective for school district taxes on and after July 1;
Sixty-month leases with Xerox to replace copiers at NASD Print Shop: Two Copiers - Model D95CP, $1,056.38, monthly per copier; one copier - Model 5890APT, $545.58, monthly, and cne copier - Model D95CP, $1,146.89, monthly; and
Treasurer's Report, tax exonerations and bills for payment.
