SALISBURY TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT
At the April 7 operations committee meeting of the Salisbury Township School District, board members were asked to make a decision on the replacement of the Salisbury High School gym floor.
Director of Facilities and Maintenance William Brackett said the abatement is complete, the adhesive is gone and they are down to concrete.
The decision was to replace the floor with a wood floor or move to a rubber floor and the board members heard pros and cons on both.
Brackett made a site visit to Wissahickon School District with an older rubber floor and had many questions answered.
Brackett said Scranton University also has rubber flooring it looks shiny like wood and is available in multiple colors.
The cost for the wood floor is $114,500 which includes the concrete preparation, placement of bleachers, floor installation and three sets of volleyball/badminton poles.
The cost for the rubber floor is $150,610 which includes all of the above in addition to an additional Everlay layer which will control moisture since humidity was found in the concrete.
The insurance company said it will pay to replace the flooring with wood at a cost of $110,000.
Brackett told the board the maintenance cost to clean the rubber floor will be the same as cleaning the existing floors.
The maintenance for the wood floor requires special material to clean before basketball games and every other year they scratch the floor and refinish it.
He said the rubber floor is PIAA approved.
Business Administrator Robert Bruchak said additional money for the rubber floor would come from the capital projects portion of the budget.
The committee recommended the rubber floor at a cost of $150,610 which will be placed on the April 23 board meeting agenda.
The board also approved a Stanley Security Solution Sonitrol Access and Intrusion Integration system for the administration building. Brackett said this system will add one card swipe for the weight room and replace two keypads which will tie into the existing system and be consistent throughout the district. The cost will be approximately $4,600.
A maintenance management system was also approved which will allow Brackett to manage the maintenance issues for the district. The new system will allow the four schools to input maintenance requests, provide a tracking system, provide direct feedback, allow Brackett to assign word orders and monitor progress, establish preventative maintenance on HVAC, vehicles, fields and equipment and track timeframes from start to finish, updates, costs and man hours.
The system will cost $3,600 annually with an additional $800 for setup and training.
