Schnecksville man in parade
Daniel Rahusen of Schnecksville, a member of the 2013 Marching Royal Dukes of James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va., performed with the marching band in the 87th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2013.
Rahusen, a graduate of Parkland High School, is majoring in health services administration.
He plays in the band's snare section.
The JMU band is one of 11 marching bands that performed in the parade, and one of only two college bands. The other was the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
The Marching Royal Dukes were selected from more than 150 applications sent to Macy's Parade's Committee.
This was the band's third appearance in the parade.

Kutztown University Secondary Education Physics major Andrew Marth of Fogelsville was a presenter at the American Association of Physics Teachers National Winter conference in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 4-7.
He presented reading and writing strategies that can be used to meet common core standards in an inquiry based physics classroom.
The AAPT is the premier national organization and authority on physics and physical science education with more than 10,000 members worldwide.

to dean's list
The following students were named to the fall 2013 dean's list at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va.
Allentown: Erica Reifinger, a sophomore majoring in communication studies ;
Fogelsville: Matthew Gurniak, a junior majoring in theater and dance; and
Schnecksville: Olivia Howell, a junior majoring in hospitality management, and Alison Keil, a freshman majoring in health sciences.
Students who earn dean's list honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.899.
