Cerrone gives student report

Ryan Cerrone gave the student report to the March 19 meeting of the Northwestern Lehigh School Board.

He told the board the Drama Club presented the musical "Footloose" and sold out every performance before opening night. Cerrone said he believes this was a first.

Two high school teams competed March 8 in Moody's Mega Math Challenge in hopes of winning a scholarship totaling $125,000.

One team included Amy Lebrecht, Coleman Link, Ryan Searcy, Jonathan Turner and Aaron Williams.

Alec Fixl, Samuel Haas, Matthew Harshey, Jacob Najarian and Cerrone were on the second team.

They had to write a 20-page report in 14 hours giving the solution to a problem.

The teams created mathematical models recommending a caloric intake at lunch based on an individual.

They also crafted a lunch menu meeting nutritional standards within the cafeteria budget.

Fifty Lehigh Career and Technical students from the Distributive Clubs of America Lehigh Chapter attended the DECA Career Development Conference in Hershey.

The following students won medals: Krystal Rube, a gold medal for written test on buying and merchandising; Amanda Webster, a gold medal for written test on marketing; and Amanda Webster, a second place for school store competition.

Science teacher David Moyer was a finalist in the IronPigs National Anthem contest. The winner was to perform the anthem at the IronPigs home opener on April 7.

Interact Club is hosting a floor hockey tournament in the high school gym, he explained. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of Shelter Boxes, a Rotary project.

Members of the Science National Honor Society and the National Honor Society will travel to Washington, D.C., to explore the city.
