Salisbury Township Police Officers participated in a specially funded Buckle Up Pa. grant targeting areas near Salisbury High School. The purpose of the grant was to inform high school students on the importance of using seat belts. In addition, students were told the police department has a zero tolerance for unbuckled drivers and if the students were observed in a vehicle without a seat belt, they would receive a ticket.
A pre-enforcement survey at the high school showed 77 percent of the students were using seat belts. A post-enforcement survey showed 83 percent of the students were using seat belts.
During this specially funded aggressive driving enforcement, 84 vehicle stops were made with 92 citations issued. Violations included unbuckled drivers, speeding, passing school buses, following too closely, driving while under license suspension and other non-moving violations.
According to Salisbury Township Police Officer Bryan Losagio, the police department will continue this enforcement during the next several weeks.
