Municipalities receive funding

Rep. Julie Harhart, R-183rd, recently announced a total of $190,000 in state funding awarded to three communities in the 183rd Legislative District in Northampton County.

"This grant funding will help some of our local municipalities move forward with projects aimed at improving their local communities," said Harhart. "The funding is the result of casinos located throughout the Commonwealth that contribute money toward regional community improvements. I look forward to seeing these projects move forward."

The grants are as follows:

· Northampton Borough - $65,000 for the Uptown Business District Park to create an urban mini-park to include a local fresh foods farmers' market in the uptown business district where Kroope's Clothing and General Store once stood.

· Lehigh Township - $100,000 for the Delps Park Development Project located in Lehigh and Moore townships with creating a fitness trail, jogging stations, a combination softball/soccer field and a parking lot.

· Allen Township - $25,000 for Allen Township Fire Company to replace fire protection equipment.

The grants were secured through the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act's Local Share Account. The revenue is generated solely by the Mount Airy Casino in Mount Pocono, and may be distributed among the five counties adjacent to Monroe County, including Northampton County.
