Offenses were up, with several categories up significantly last year compared to 2012 in Salisbury Township, according to the Uniform Crime Report.

There were 355 offenses listed last year, up from 317 in 2012.

Burglaries increased to 46 in 2013, up from 37 in 2012, according to the 2013 annual report released by Salisbury Township Chief of Police Allen W. Stiles.

Also, in statistics compiled by Sergeant Donald Sabo, township Criminal Investigation Supervisor, and township Detective Kevin Kress, thefts also increased to 248 last year from 220 in 2012.

Assaults were 38 last year, up from 26 in 2012, according to the report released to the township board of commissioners and the media at the Jan. 27 township meeting.

Sexual assaults were 11 last year, up from eight in 2012, based on the report.

Robberies were reported last year at two, up from one in 2012.

Auto thefts were down, 10 last year, compared to 22 in 2012.

Also down was arson, zero last year, with one in 2012.

There were no homicides last year, compared to two in 2012.

Overall arrests were fewer: adults, 59 last year, compared to 72 in 2012, and juveniles, three, compared to five in 2012.

The value of property stolen was down, $481,966 last year, compared to $860,055 in 2012.

The value of property recovered was also down, $67,172, compared to $497,978 in 2012.

The 2013 annual reported noted the two homicides that took place in 2012 were both young female victims.

The trial for the Lanze Lane homicide took place last year, the report states.

The investigation of the Chestnut Hill Road homicide and the arrests of the suspects in that crime took place last year, according to the report.

The trial for the Chestnut Hill Road homicide is scheduled for this summer in Berks County.

The 2013 report states the cost of investigating and prosecuting the two homicide cases was $13,700 last year.

The cost of court time, for one trial and two preliminary hearings, was $2,700 last year.

Overtime for these cases and investigations was $10,000. Supplies cost $1,000. Man-hours to date are 1,900 hours.

Also, the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office contributed 650 man-hours by assigning two county detectives to assist township police with both investigations.

Police calls dispatched, of which there were 6,983 last year, were in the 600 per month range, with a high of 684 in November 2013 and a low of 496 in February 2013.

Incident reports, of which there were 6,038 last year, were in the 500 per month range, with a high of 553 in December 2012 and a low of 450 in January 2013.
