Northampton Area High School and Lehigh Career and Technical Students Shaniyah Zepp and Joseph Scott were honored at the recent SkillsUSA competition.

Zepp received third place in the cake decorating contest and Scott received sixth place in the carpentry competition.

Also participating in the competition from NAHS was Austin Kochenash, Automobile Service Technology; Casey Bicking, Building Maintenance Technology; Quinn Strohl, Collision Repair Technology; Vincent Sorrentino, Electronics Technology; Mackenzie Lee, Alyssa Reed, Shawna Schibilia and Samantha Trinkle, all Health Knowledge Bowl; Andrew Capozzoli, HVAC & Refrigeration; Daniel Frack and Michael Henne, Quiz Bowl; and Kaden Chambes, Austin Kolesnik and Chris Rau, TeamWorks.

More than 400 Lehigh Valley high school students competed in 54 hands-on skill and leadership competitions.

The event provided the opportunity for some talented technical and career education students to be judged on their skills.

The participants from Northampton Area High School also attend Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School.

More than $60,000 in scholarships were awarded to the medalists in nine competitions.

Participating students attend Lehigh Career & Technology Institute, BAVT, Career Institute of Technology, Colonial Academy. Monroe Career & Technical Institute and Upper Bucks County Technical School.

Following the day of competition, an awards ceremony was held in the evening at Parkland High School, attended by the students and their families. The gold medal winners will go on the represent District 11 at a state competition in Hershey in April.
