A raging beast, talking furniture and a fairy-tale ending will enchant theater-goers when "Beauty and the Beast" plays 7 p.m. March 19, 20, 21 and 2, 7 p.m. March 22 and 23 in the auditorium of Emmaus High School, 500 Macungie Avenue, Emmaus.
The musical is directed by Jill Kuebler. Music director is Rita Cortez.
The show is based on the 1991 animated feature film by Walt Disney Pictures, which received Oscars for its title song and score.
The musical, nominated for nine Tonys, is Broadway's eighth longest-running musical with 5,461 performances (1994 - 2007).
The story is derived from the French fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont.
When Belle (Megnot Toggia), the "Beauty," visits an enchanted castle, the Beast (Anthony Sharp) detains her as a permanent guest. His beastly behavior causes the castle staff to rally to Belle's aid.
The staff has been transformed into furniture, including Cogsworth (Christopher Mikus), and household items, including Lumière (Sawyer Long), by the same enchantress that turned a handsome young prince into the Beast.
Music is by Alan Menken and lyrics are by Howard Ashman.
Songs include "Be Our Guest," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Gaston."
