March 12

Take a Stand, A Bullying Prevention Event, will be held 6:15 p.m. in the DeSales University Center on the school's Center Valley campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Kirk Smalley, a nationally known speaker from Oklahoma and founder of the non-profit organization Stand for the Silent will present. In the recent documentary Bully, Smalley shared his family's experience with bullying. At 11 years old, Smalley's son Tyler took his own life after being suspended from school for retaliating against a bully who had been bullying him for more than two years.

Families are encouraged to attend and the program is appropriate for students in grades 4 and older. Educators and others who work with children and youth are also encouraged to attend.

March 13

"What's So Funny About Growing Old," will be presented by Monro Roth at Lehigh Valley Active Life, 1633 West Elm St., Allentown, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The event is free for members and there is a small fee for nonmembers. Call 610-437-3700 to register.

Old Zionsville United Church of Christ, 5981 Fountain Road, Old Zionsville, will hold a breakfast buffet 7 to 11 a.m. or until sold out. There will be a cost for guests six years old and older. The public is welcome. For information, call 610-966-5115.

Education Forum: The Legacy of No Child Left Behind presented by Muhlenberg education professors, Dr. Michael Carbone and Sally Richwine, who will be sharing their cutting-edge research exploring how standardized tests have impacted students, teachers, schools and outcomes.

The event is open to the public in all school districts. Teachers, parents and administrators are encouraged to attend. The forum will be held 7 p.m. in the East Penn School District Board Room, 800 Pine St., Emmaus.

Emmaus Historical Society meets 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church parish hall. The program for the evening is "Lehigh River Trackside With Randolph Kulp." Doug Peters will present photos taken by Kulp from 1950 into the 1980s.
