A Sunshine 4-H Community Club is looking for teens that want to engage in their local community through 4-H projects, community based service projects and socialization with peers. The club is for teens with mild autism. Participants need to be 11-18 years old as of January 1, based in Lehigh County and able to communicate their needs and maintain safe control of their behavior at all times.
Club members will select and vote on various projects to complete each year. Projects may include, cooking, gardening, woodworking, crafts or wildlife. Service projects may include baking dog biscuits for shelters or trail maintenance for parks.
Members will be encouraged to share ideas for future projects and activities. Club registration is limited to allow a successful experience for all members. Club leaders are screened volunteers.
Parents will be encouraged to help their 4-H member participate in and complete projects as well as attend meetings and assist club leaders. Meetings will be twice a month on Tuesdays at the Lehigh Carbon Community College in Schnecksville.
Many educational and fun activities are offered by 4-H in Lehigh County. In Pennsylvania, 4-H is coordinated by Penn State Cooperative Extension through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. 4-H programs are open to all youths regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin or disability.
