STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. What grade are you currently in?
A. I am currently in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. At the moment my favorite subject is English. Mostly because I've always loved reading, writing and expressing creativity through literature.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I was recognized as a member of National Honor Society and in 10th grade I was chosen to be a founding member of Salisbury's No Place for Hate organization.
Q. What extracurricular activities are you involved in, both in and out of school?
A. I just recently finished my fourth and final season of high school soccer. I am also involved in No Place for Hate, Student Government Association and National Honor Society.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. After high school I plan on attending Temple University for media studies and production. I hope to graduate from Temple in four years with a bachelor's degree and an internship or career in the field that I love.
Q. What would you say your biggest challenge was so far?
A. My biggest challenge thus far has definitely been stress and time management. Although my activities have slowed down recently, handling clubs, organizations, sports, part-time jobs and all the homework and studying needed to maintain good grades in school is very stressful. However, the past four years have taught me to manage time well in order to reduce stress.
Q. What do you want to be remembered for?
A. I hope I am remembered for my personality. Whenever I meet someone new I always hope to express compassion, humor and a positive character. This is what I sincerely hope I am remembered for.
Q. Who is in your family?
A. My mother, Lori Fortunato, is a third grade teacher at Harry S Truman Elementary School, my father, Larry Fortunato, is a culinary arts instructor at Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School and my younger brother Nicholas Fortunato is in ninth grade at Salisbury High School.
Q. Do you have someone you look up to?
A. I definitely look up to both of my parents. They have worked very hard to get where they are and they work every day to provide my brother and I with things we need and want. Both of my parents went back to school to receive their master's degrees. One day I aspire to be the loving, kind and hardworking parents and overall people they are.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Stay positive and look at every day as a new opportunity to work hard and get one step closer to your dream.
