State legislature

State Representative Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, recently announced his bid for re-election.

Mackenzie was elected to the 134th House District in April 2012 when a special election was held to replace the Hon. Douglas G. Reichley, who became a Lehigh County judge. Mackenzie was then re-elected to a full, two-year term in November 2012.

"I have had the great honor of serving residents of Lehigh and Berks for the past two years, and I have never lived a day when I was not grateful for that privilege," Mackenzie said. "I've worked hard to represent my constituents and I'm proud of the accomplishments my office and I have made in such a short time."

Within six months of taking office, he introduced and passed his first piece of legislation, Act 169 of 2012, which streamlined some previously inefficient operations of state government.

Mackenzie has continued to advance a number of legislative bills, including Act 52 of 2013. Act 52 eliminated the inheritance tax for small, family-owned businesses and permitted a $5,000 deduction by startup companies in the first year of operation.
