The middle school's canned food drive is under way. Please begin collecting and saving canned foods to donate for their annual collection. The students and staff at the middle school continue year after year to make this a huge success. Each homeroom has a friendly competition to collect the most items. The middle school will then help Second Harvest and our local Whitehall Food Pantries by donating the items collected for those in need. Please help and send in your cans and nonperishable food.

March 3 starts Read Across America activities. The national program promotes reading and adult involvement in the education of students. Read Across America's goal is to motivate children to read. March is the birthday of Theodore Geisel, better known as "Dr. Seuss." His books have led generations of children to learn to read and enjoy reading.
At Gockley Elementary School, they will participate with the theme of "reel in a good book!" based on Seuss's book "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish." Throughout the building, teachers and students will be reading books all day about fish. The staff and students are encouraged to wear red or blue clothing, even with a fish design. There will be many classroom activities and students will be taking part in Dr. Seuss games in gym class. Members of the Whitehall High School Leo Club will come to classes to read a story and do crafts in the classrooms.
Parents are encouraged to continue the reading celebration at home that evening. Some suggestions include fish sticks for dinner or tuna, telling fishing stories and visiting the Whitehall or Coplay Public libraries to pick out a book to read together. Hope you join the fun of learning.
Students and staff at the Steckel and Zephyr elementary schools are encouraged to wear red and white. They, too, will have guest readers from the high school Leo Club.
