A Northwestern Lehigh school bus transporting 22 elementary school children on their way to school was struck by a pickup truck just before 9 a.m. Feb. 19 on Route 143, Lynn Township, State Police Troop M Fogels-ville say.
Harold Greiss, 62, of New Tripoli, was driving a 1982 Chevrolet 3/4-ton pickup south on Route 143 at Mosserville Road when he apparently lost control of the truck on the ice-covered road.
Police say the left front of the pickup struck the right front of a 2008 Thomas school bus driven by Kim Borgman, 59, of New Tripoli.
The pickup began to spin out of control and went into the nortbound lane of travel directly into the path of the bus.
Borgman took evasive action by steering to the left in an attempt to minimize impact, police say.
Both vehicles came to rest on Route 143, blocking the roadway.
Police say freezing rain made driving on area roadways extremely treacherous.
Both drivers, who were wearing their seat belts, were uninjured. Police say none of the children on the school bus were injured. They were taken to school on another bus.
Although damage to the school bus was slight, it was towed from the scene by Lowe and Moyer Garage, police say.
New Tripoli Fire Department assisted at the scene.
