'Big River' comes to CHS March 6-9

Watch out Broadway because the Catasauqua High School Drama Club will present the 1985 Tony Award-winning musical "Big River" March 6-9 in the high school auditorium.

The script is written by William Hauptman and the music and lyrics are written by Roger Miller. The story is based on Mark Twain's classic 1884 novel, "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

Some of the actors are featured in more than one role.

The CHS production features 25 students including Scott Glose as Mark Twain, second man, man in the group and first hired hand; Patric Corrocher as Huck Finn; Kanyi Creppy as Jim; Natalie Falcone as Widow Douglas; Samantha Diaz as Miss Watson and slave singing; Andrew Rice as Judge Thatcher, Harvey Wilkes, Randy and first man; Vanessa Abel as Tom Sawyer; Connor Green as Pap Finn, Lafe, counsellor Robinson and doctor; Autumn Nester as Susan Wilkes, schoolmaster and slave singing; Paul Fox as Silas Phelps, king and preacher; Amber Labezius as Ben Rogers and young fool; Krys Roberts as Joe Harper; Steve Shook as Phil, Hank, second hired hand and sheriff Bell; Emily Naegel as Dick; Laura Kaeppel as Simon, Koanne Wilkes and slave singing; Crossley Kudla-Williams as Sally Phelps and strange woman; Emmie Ledesma as the duke; Nikaule Florence as Alice/slave; Thalia Santiago as Alice's daughter/slave; Becky Guillen as slave; Janelle Roth as Mary Jane Wilkes and slave singing; and Rose Dietrich and Ashlee Boyko as townspeople.

The musical story line follows the life of Huck and runaway slave, Jim, as they search for freedom along the Mississippi River. During their journey, Huck and Jim discover a host of characters while gaining respect for one another's different social and racial backgrounds.

"Big River" features bluegrass and country style musical hits such as "Kings Of The Road," "Dang Me," "Chug A Lug," and "Husbands & Wives."

This year's musical marks the 38th musical collaboration between Robert Fahringer and Richard E. Milne at CHS.

Performances will begin 7 p.m. A matinee will also be staged 2 p.m. March 9.

Prices are $8 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens.
