Acetylene tanks rupture at Upper Mac business

Firefighters from Upper Macungie Station 56, Fogelsville, Trexlertown, Cetronia, Lower Macungie and Woodlawn were called Feb. 12 to an acetylene tank fire at GTS Inc.

GTS, 5275 Tilghman St., Upper Macungie, is a specialty gas supply company.

The tanks fell off a forklift causing them to rupture and burn, according to Fogelsville Fire Chief Jacque Creamer.

Firefighters on two engines used their high volume deck guns to cool other acetylene tanks at risk of overheating and rupturing.

Water also protected firefighters using hoses to extinguish the flames.

The fire was quickly controlled and all units were cleared from the scene in two hours.
