Two-alarm fire destroys second floor of Greenwood Road home

For the second time in five days, a fire heavily damaged a Salisbury dwelling, driving another family out of their home for an extensive restoration.

Firefighters from Western Salisbury, Eastern Salisbury and South Whitehall Township's Cetronia Station were dispatched 12:52 p.m. Feb. 16 for a dwelling fire at the home of Richard and Susan Rogers, 2020 Greenwood Road.

Western Salisbury Deputy Chief Jason Faryniak was on the scene in about two minutes and found heavy smoke and flames fully involving the second floor of the structure.

Faryniak immediately asked the Lehigh County 911 Communications Center to dispatch a second alarm which brought out units from Emmaus and Lower Macungie.

Alburtis Fire Department sent a Rapid Intervention Team to provide a dedicated firefighter rescue response in case an interior firefighter got into trouble.

South Whitehall's Woodlawn Station sent its air cascade unit to replenish air tanks for the firefighters.

Cetronia Ambulance Corps had three units on the scene and medics provided hydration for firefighters and checked blood pressure and other vital statistics for firefighters involved in the interior fire attack.

Salisbury Police Sergeant Donald Sabo, who is also Salisbury Township's fire marshal, said he would be conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Faryniak released all but the Western Salisbury units at 3:45 p.m.
