Man attempts
suicide at Knob
State Police Troop M Bethlehem say a 19-year-old Northampton man intentionally jumped off the northern side of the Blue Mountain, just north of the Appalachian Trail, Heidelberg Township, around 2:30 p.m. Feb. 9 in a suicide attempt.
The specific location was approximately 1,000 meters northeast of a parking lot at the trailhead of the Appalachian Trail.
Germansville Fire Chief Jay Scheffler told The Press Feb. 12 in addition to his volunteer firefighters, fire crews from New Tripoli, Lynnport, Kempton and Lehigh County Technical Rescue responded.
Northwestern Ambulance Corps and Macungie Ambulance Corps' rehabilitation unit also answered the call.
Scheffler said ATVs were used to reach Bake Oven Knob and he and New Tripoli Fire Chief Peter Christ walked up to the site.
The teen, according to Scheffler, landed some 150 feet from the top of the Knob.

into custody
State Police Troop M Fogelsville say John Anthony Dicataldo, 43, of New Tripoli, was stopped for an alleged traffic violation 11:34 p.m. Feb. 8 on Route 100 between Kernsville and Kistler roads, Lowhill Township.
Police allege Dicataldo displayed signs of alcohol intoxication. He was taken into custody for driving under the influence.
Charges will be filed with District Judge Rod Beck pending receipt of blood results.
School bus
hits mailbox
State Police Troop M Bethlehem say David J. Dunton, 44, of Palmerton, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet school bus when it hit a mailbox and retainer wall 4:10 p.m. Feb. 10 at 7181 Saegersville Road, Heidelberg Township.
According to police, Dunton was southbound on Saegersville Road, north of Bullhead Road when the bus struck the mailbox and retainer wall to the right of the roadway with its front end.
Police say Dunton was driving too fast for conditions.
Dunton, who was wearing his seat belt, was uninjured, police say.
He was charged with driving his vehicle at an unsafe speed.
Vehicle hits
embankment
Bradley P. Siesko, 37, of Tamaqua, was driving a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero south on Route 309, just north of Gun Club Road, Lynn Township, when the car drifted to the right side of the snow-covered road roadway 7:06 a.m. Jan. 27.
The car struck an embankment then slid into the guard rail on the southbound side of the road, before spinning counterclockwise and traveling into the northbound lane of travel.
The driver's side of the car struck the embankment on the northbound side of the road, before coming to a final rest facing north in the northbound lane of travel.
Siesko, who was wearing his seat belt, sustained minor injuries and was treated by Northwestern EMS at the scene, police say.
The car was removed by Soley's Towing.
Siesko was charged with driving at an unsafe speed, police say.
