DevonHouse Senior Living opens new 10-room residence expansion

DevonHouse Senior Living, along Bevin Drive in the western portion of the township, unveiled a new neighborhood-style wing Feb. 6, which adds 10 private apartment-style assisted living rooms.

DevonHouse invited area health care professionals to inspect the new rooms at an open house event held Feb. 6, just hours after the final occupancy inspection was completed.

The new rooms focus on re-creating the residents' home comforts, daily living routines and opportunities more conducive to socialization.

Some of the new private rooms' amenities include a larger bathroom and a galley kitchen giving residents the opportunity to prepare snacks and reheat food.

Four pantry kitchens also were added to the lobby of each of the wings where residents, family members and other guests can access snacks or beverages.

An outdoor patio was also added, with plans to use the patio for al-fresco dining managed by Cura Hospitality, the facility's dining management firm, as well as for weather-conducive activities and events.

Vickie Snyder, DevonHouse's executive director, said the objective of the expansion project was "to enhance the quality of life, customer service and our overall resident-centered care. It has been my pleasure to work with DevonHouse owner, Jim Gentile, of North Star Construction Inc., and his daughter Jessica Gentile," the company's development director, Snyder said.

"It has been reassuring to know that the owners of our community share a vested interest in paying special attention to the details most important to the well-being and the safety of our residents."

Gentile's construction management company started the expansion project in September 2013.

"With good fall weather we were able to get everything under roof in a timely manner so we could do finish work inside before the weather turned bad," Gentile said. Grace Hoyer, spokesperson for Cura Hospitality, a member of Eat'n Park Hospitality Group, with headquarters in Pittsburgh, said its mission at DevonHouse was "Enhancing Life Around Great Food."

Cura serves over 50 senior living communities and hospitals in the mid-Atlantic region. Cura's culinary, guest service and clinical professionals provide hospitality and clinical care to more than 20,000 residents, patients and guests each day, Hoyer said.
