While much attention focuses on the Super Bowl football game Feb. 2, area churches are participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring to address the issue of hunger in the community.

At St. John's United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, the youth group will dress in the colors of the teams playing in the Super Bowl.

People may place donations in offering containers of their favorite NFL football team playing that day.

Contributions will be given to the Lehigh County Conference of Churches for use at Daybreak and the soup kitchen.

Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, is turning the Super Bowl of feasting into a Souper Bowl of Caring Feb. 2 with a loud offering of coins and bills collected in big, metal soup pots.

Donations will be used to feed and shelter local hungry people.

The Learning Ark Christian Pre-School at Union Lutheran will have open house 6-8 p.m. Feb. 6.

Tour the preschool, review the curriculum and register for 2014-15. Snow date is Feb. 13.

Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, will join thousands of churches across the country to celebrate Souper Bowl Sunday Feb. 2.

Cash and canned soup will be collected for the Northern Lehigh Food Bank.

Neffs UCC Pre-School will have open house 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 5.

Parents and children are invited to see the school, meet the teachers and register for 2014-15.

Classes are available for children ages 3, 4 and pre-kindergarten.

Snow date is Feb. 12.

Upper Lehigh Lions Club will be cooking up an all-you-can-eat breakfast 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 9, at the Schnecksville Fire Hall. Menu includes pancakes, sausage, scrapple, ham, scrambled eggs, homefries and beverages.
