EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN HST third grade students invite their families to lunch

Harry S Truman Elementary School is extending an invitation to parents and guardians to join their third grader for lunch Feb 3. Lunches may be purchased at the school or brought in by guests.

HST students will have a T-shirt day Jan. 30.

The HST PTO will have a dinner meeting 6 p.m. Feb. 3. Contact the school for additional information.

The operations committee for the school district will hold its meeting at the administration building 7 p.m. Feb. 3.

The curriculum and technology committeee will meet at Western Salisbury Elementary School 7 p.m. Feb. 10

A regular monthly school board meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the administration building.

A PTO-sponsored roller skating night for HST families is planned for 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 13.

Salisbury High School is hosting an evening to provide parents and guardians with information pertaining to course selections for the 2014-2015 academic year. The guidance department has scheduled a parent information session 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 3, in the school's auditorium. Current eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th grade parents or guardians are encouraged to attend. Introduction to block scheduling will be discussed as well as requirements set by the district for graduation. SHS's program of studies is available on SHS's guidance website. The Pennsylvania Association for Gifted Education's Annual Conference, "A National Treasure for the Future" will be held April 24 to 25 at Millersville University's Ware Center in Lancaster. Interested parents and guardians need to contact the Salisbury PAGE Affiliate officers listed on the PAGE website www.giftedpage.com. All Salisbury Township schools will have an early dismissal Jan. 31. HST and WSE students will be dismissed 1 p.m. Salisbury Middle School and Salisbury High School students will be dismissed 12:15 p.m.

The Salisbury Township Planning Commission will hold several public workshops regarding the proposed zoning ordinance amendments during the month of February. The workshops will be held at the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave., Allentown, 6 p.m. Feb. 5, 10, 11, 25 and 26. The meeting Feb. 11 will begin 7:30 p.m. Any interested individuals may attend.

The Salisbury Township Zoning Hearing Board will meet 7 p.m. Feb 4 at the municipal building.

Salisbury Township is accepting applications for a part-time receptionist for 20 to 25 hours per week Monday through Friday. The position includes answering phones, assisting and greeting visitors, typing and filing. Experience in Microsoft Office Suite is preferred. Send resume, letter of interest and three references to Cathy Bonaskiewich, 2900 S. Pike Avenue, Allentown, 18103 by Feb. 5. The office requests no phone calls on this position.

Local citizens are being offered a new opportunity to obtain hands-on training, working to improve the environment in the Keystone State.

Pennsylvania's first master watershed program, recently has been put into place, courtesy of Penn State Extension, the Watershed Coalition of the Lehigh Valley and other community environmental groups. This spring program is being offered in Lehigh and Northampton counties and volunteers are needed.

Responsibilities will include organizing educational workshops for the public, students and municipal officials. Student topics include rain barrels, wildlife, pollution prevention, storm- water management and plant control. Master watershed stewards also organize stream cleanups, check streams for bacteria and lead stream bank, restoration endeavors.
