SALISBURY TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT

At the Jan. 14 Communities That Care meeting at Salisbury High School, Denise H. Continenza, M.Ed., family and consumer sciences educator/ prevention affiliate with Penn State Extension-Lehigh County announced the scheduling of the next Strengthening Families Program.

The free program for parents/caregivers and their fifth and sixth grade students will be offered in seven sessions Wednesday evenings April 2 through May 21 at Harry S Truman Elementary School. Each evening begins 5:30 p.m. with a weekly dinner for the entire family, all at no cost. Additionally, free child care is provided for younger family members. The evening ends 8 p.m. with a program and family fun.

Parents and caregivers will learn how to enhance their parenting skills and students will learn how to prepare for the teen years and their move to the middle school.

Space is limited for the program. SMS Guidance Counselor Michael Dorwood is coordinating the reservations and can be reached at 610-791-0830, ext. 3532.

The Strengthening Families Program is sponsored by the Salisbury Township School District, Penn State Extension and Valley Youth House.

SMS Teacher Matt Tobias is delivering the All-Stars program to students. Continenza said half of the seventh grade students have completed the program. All-Stars is designed to prevent harmful behaviors among adolescents and help adolescents build bright futures.
