Exchange Club recognizes Students of the Month
Six Northampton Area High School seniors were recognized by the Northampton Exchange Club's Service to Youth program at its Dec. 4, 2013 dinner meeting at the Northampton Memorial Community Center.
The program cites seniors for outstanding work in the classroom, extracurricular activities and community service.
Cited as Girl and Boy of the Month were Elizabeth Myers and Vasil Hlinka, October, 2013; Mallory Johnson and Benjamin Longacre, November, 2013; and Kyleigh Goral and Ryan Hartzell, December, 2013.
"Tonight we are celebrating excellence," Dr. Rodger Berg, program chairman, said of the six seniors recognized.
Berg said the honorees exhibit confidence, leadership, talent and family values which will serve them well into the future as they navigate through college and life.
· Myers is involved in National Honor Society, orchestra - first violin and secretary, newspaper staff writer, Science Olympiad, Outdoor Club, Colonial Intermediate Unit volunteer, Girl Scouts Gold and Silver Awards, church council, Sunday School teacher and church choir.
· Hlinka is a member of National Honor Society, German Club induction committee chairman, Lehigh University dual enrollment, Scholastic Scrimmage, DECA, FBLA, boys volleyball, debate club, chess club and Northampton Area Food Bank volunteer.
· Johnson is a member of National Honor Society, drama club and costume manager, ski and board club, German club, NAHS cheering, PEACE club, vacation Bible school/helper and dance assistant teacher.
· Longacre is a member of National Honor Society member and vice president, student council president and school board representative, ski and board club, varsity swimming team member and co-captain, lacrosse, SADD, volleyball, German club, debate team, Blue Mountain Ski Patrol, Boy Scouts and Eagle Scout and 2012 Philadelphia Marathon participant.
·Goral is involved with National Honor Society, German club president and secretary, drama club costumes co-manager, Bethlehem Special Olympics volunteer assistant coach and softball.
· Hartzell is involved with National Honor Society, debate club, newspaper editor, artist and writer, French club, boys lacrosse, Reading Challenge, Reflections PTA art contest, Library Club president, Northampton Ice Hockey Club and church youth group.
The Northampton Exchange Club is made up of community-spirited citizens and local business owners who live in the Borough of Northampton and surrounding areas.
