The Lehigh County Senior Center, 1633 Elm St., Allentown, has been renamed Lehigh Valley Active Life to better reflect its programs, classes and activities for the region's older and active adults.

The re-designation of the facility coincides with the organization's launch of a revamped website and redesigned logo. The rebranding was the result of consulting with The Anderson Group, Sinking Spring, Berks County.

Rick Daugherty, executive director of Lehigh Valley Active Life, said the name change was approved by the center's board of directors, which reviews the purpose, program and resources of the center about every 10 years to ensure the facility continues to meet the needs of the Lehigh Valley's senior and active adults.

"After more than 50 years, we have evolved into the organization you see today," Daugherty said at a Dec. 3 open house when the changes were introduced.

"Our new name and look signifies our ability and dedication toward offering our members the best resources in the Lehigh Valley.

"Beyond our varied programs from fitness and creative arts, to games and education we find that the most valued part of being a member is the feeling of being socially-connected," Daugherty continued.

"Ultimately, that means helping people transition from busy and active lives before retirement, to busy, active and satisfying lives after retirement," said Daugherty.

In addition to an art exhibit, the open house featured entertainment by the Queen City Quintet, interpretive dancing by Karen Fox, a yoga class led by Julene Martin-Morganelli, and a discussion of the life of John Fitzgerald Kennedy by Al Skeath.

Lehigh Valley Active Life provides a variety of programs each week, year-round, including lunch, concerts, dance, fitness, creative arts, games, cooking, discussions, health checks, AARP safe driving, computer use, tax preparation assistance, singles group activities, movie screenings, and Broadway, travel and other destination bus trips.
