STSD employee nominated for LVMA awards

Scott Marshall, a Salisbury Township School District employee by day and musician by night, has been nominated for 13 Lehigh Valley Music Awards.

In addition to being a former STSD student and current employee for the last six years, Marshall is also an award winning singer/songwriter, recording artist and entertainer.

Known for bridging gaps between country, rock, blues and bluegrass music styles with both of his bands Marshall's Highway and The Hillbilly Souls, Marshall has been making quite a name for himself. In 2011, he was nominated for 11 LVMA's and took home five including Entertainer of the Year.

Marshall's music deeply reflects his faith and love for family, friends and tradition. He can be seen at local establishments throughout the region and at festivals like Musikfest and Mayfair, events like The Run/Walk and The Ride for Adam and numerous benefits throughout the year.

"As an STSD employee I've been given the opportunity to work along side and with some amazing folks I also call friends," Marshall said.

"Regardless of what I'm doing, I'm a lucky guy, he continued. Everyday, I'm able to make a difference in people's lives by just being me. The fact that it's in the same buildings I wandered as a kid makes it more meaningful and ironic on several purpose-filled ways. I love our district and I'm proud of it. We may be small, but we have got what it takes. From the students, their families and every faculty member to the top. Good times, bad times, there's definitely enough love and support to go round," Marshall said.

"As a songwriter, it's just as much a blessing and a privilege to share my heart and soul doing something I just so happen to love dearly. The fact that it reaches and speaks to many people on many levels, priceless! I cherish the time I get to spend with my brothers/bandmates and the moments we spend with an audience week after week, show after show," Marshall said.

"We're a different kind of band, but really not so different. We're not trying to introduce a new sound. Just reintroducing an old one that encompasses our values and demands a good ol' foot stompin time, the good ol' American way. The fact that we have so much to offer an audience keeps us steady at the wheel, heading down what appears to be the right road," Marshall said.

The LVMA is an annual award designed to honor, reward and celebrate the music industry of the greater Lehigh Valley. It is produced by The Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association, a non-profit volunteer organization designed to produce music-related events throughout the Lehigh Valley.

The 15th annual Lehigh Valley Music Awards will be presented March 9 at the Musikfest Cafe, ArtsQuest Center at Steel Stacks, Bethlehem.

Voting is open through 6 p.m. Jan. 10. Only residents of the greater Lehigh Valley are eligible to vote.
