Ziegels Union Church, 9990 Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville, will have a Boar's Head Festival with a banquet of traditional food, servers, vocal and instrumental English Christmas music noon Jan. 5, 2014.

When Christian beliefs overtook other customs in Europe, the presentation of the boar's head at Christmas came to symbolize the triumph of the Christ Child over sin.

Cooks, servers, peasants, lords and ladies, jugglers and people to sew costumes for the participants are needed.

Parkland Community Library, 4422 Walbert Ave, South Whitehall, will host its new daytime book group for adults 2-3 p.m. Jan. 4, 2014, to discuss "The Light between Oceans," a novel by M.L. Stedman.

New members are welcome to attend.

The library's teen group for students in seventh to 12th grade will meet 7:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 7, 2014. No registration is required to attend.

Family storytime for children, ages 18 months to 3 years, will be offered 10:30 a.m. Jan. 8, 2014.

An adult must stay with each child.

There will be stories, songs and games for the entire family.

Younger and older siblings may attend.

Preschool storytime for children ages 3 to 5 will be offered 1 p.m. Jan. 8, 2014.

Parents must stay in the library but do not have to attend storytime with their children.

There will be stories, songs, games and crafts.

Space is limited for both the family storytime and preschool storytime, so registration is required.

Night at the Movies will take place 6:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 8, 2014.

Goodwill Fire Company No. 1 of Trexlertown, 7723 Hamilton Blvd, is cooking up breakfast between 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Jan. 12, 2014.

The meal includes eggs, pancakes, toast and home fries and choose of two meats: sausage, bacon, ham or mackerel.

The Ladies Auxiliary will be accepting orders until Jan. 8, 2014 for their hoagie sale. Pick-up is Jan. 15, 2014.
