Upper Macungie Township police are investigating a distraction type burglary Dec. 4 at a home in the 6300 block of Chapmans Road.
Police say the 88-year-old woman reported at approximately 4:50 p.m. a clean-shaven white man, standing approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall with a chubby build, wearing a white and red sweat shirt, gray pants and white gloves knocked on the door of her home.
The man claimed to be a utility worker and wanted to check both the rear of the yard and the water pressure inside the house.
The man did not display credentials or show indentification and did not specify for which utility company he supposedly worked.
After he looked at the yard, the man requested the homeowner come out of the house with him, and then running some water in the kitchen, the man left the home in a white box truck.
The homeowner later discovered cash had been taken from the home.
Police say while the woman was distracted, another person may have entered the home.
Homeowners should verify credentials and the identification of any person claiming to be a utility worker at their home.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 484-661-5911.
