CHS Rough Rider band performs well this season

The Catasauqua High School Rough Rider Marching Band, lead by Drum Major Laura Kaeppel, recently placed second in a competition at Woodland Hills.

The band has performed well this year and placed first in the last several competitions.

On Sept. 21, the band placed first at a competition in Schuylkill Haven and on Sept. 28, the band earned first place and an additional award of High Percussion at an event in Wilson West Lawn.

On Oct. 5 at Spring Ford High School, the band placed first place and received the Best Pit Crew Award.

The band was also awarded first place in its division Oct. 5 at a competition in Nazareth. The band also received additional awards of Best Music, Best Visual, Best General Effect and Best Percussion.

On Oct. 20 the band competed at the Lehigh/Berks/Schuylkill Region Championship Tournament of Bands Competition at Northern Lehigh High School and was awarded first place for their division. In addition, the band also received High Visual, Best Music and the United States Marine Corps Award for Outstanding Pride and Energy.

The band performed at the Tournament of Bands Competition Eastern State Chapter Championships Oct. 19 at the Whitehall High School stadium and placed first for Chapters.

On Oct. 26 the band placed third out of 23 other bands in the 2013 Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Conference for the Class 1A Championship held at Central Dauphin Stadium in Harrisburg.

The band also performed earlier in the afternoon Oct. 26 at the Lehigh Valley Band Day at Nazareth.

The band recently competed Nov. 2 in the Pennsbury Band Festival and the U.S. Bands Invitational Championships at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown Nov. 9.
