To the Editor:
Salisbury Middle School should have a summer reading list! Teachers are debating the issue of having a summer reading list or not for students. It definitely would be better to have a reading list while on summer vacation. During the summer months most kids are with their friends, playing video games or complaining that they are bored. Reading would solve this problem!
For instance, without a reading list during the summer (nine times out of 10), kids are doing nothing with their minds to help them get a head start for the upcoming school year. Most certainly, reading lists help us keep refreshing our minds and can cure our cases of summer boredom. Some students will be whining about having a reading list, so the school needs to come up with ways to motivate the student body to want to read.
To illustrate my point, if students complete their reading lists they should be eligible for a prize. Another terrific idea the teachers could do to motivate us to read is to have a reading party at the beginning of the school year for all of the students who completed their summer reading lists.
All in all, Salisbury Middle School students need a summer reading list to improve not only their skill retention rate but to cure their boredom during the long summer days.
