Whitehall-Coplay School District news

Whitehall Township Fire Chief Robert Benner will present a special program at Gockley Elementary School today.

Students will get to see a firefighter climb a 100-foot ladder on a fire truck.

First graders will also have the opportunity to talk and eat lunch with the firefighters.

The Whitehall High School Choir will hold a spaghetti dinner at Faith Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Road, Whitehall, 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16.

Tickets will be available at the door.

The dinner includes spaghetti with meat or marinara sauce, salad, bread and dessert.

Money raised will help fund the choir's competition in Washington D.C.

Steckel Elementary School students will hold their annual Halloween parade tomorrow, Oct. 25, at 1:35 p.m.

Parents may line the parade route, which begins at Steckel and wraps around the front of the middle school before returning to Steckel.

Gockley Elementary School Wear Red Day is scheduled for tomorrow, Oct. 25.

This event is a nationwide effort to reduce the demand for drugs in our country.

Children may wear red socks, shirts, sweaters, shoelaces, hair ribbons, etc.

The students and staff at the middle school are reminded that Thursday, Oct. 25, is Hat Day and Candid Photo Day.

Photos will be used for the middle school yearbook.

Be sure to wear your smile all day because you never know if a candid photo may be taken.

Students and staff at Gockley Elementary School will hold their Halloween parade Thursday, Oct. 31.

The morning kindergarten students begin at 10 a.m. Afternoon kindergartners and first graders start at 1:30 p.m.

Both groups parade around the macadam circle in front of the building.

In the event of rain, the parade will be held in the gym and cafeteria.

Costumes should be simple and require minimal assistance. They must be in good taste and not depict violence.

Parents are asked to refrain from parking in front of the school or along the grass and use the football stadium parking lot.

Students and staff members at Zephyr Elementary School will celebrate Autumn Antics Week next week.

During the week the students will be making caramel apples. The PTO is sponsoring the apple dipping fun, with parent volunteers visiting homerooms to assist.

On Monday, Oct. 28, the building will display the colors of autumn. Dress in any fall color.

Oct. 29 is Hat Day.

Wednesday, Oct. 30, is Twin Day. Find a friend and dress alike.

Thursday, Oct. 31, is Wear Orange and Black Day.

Friday, Nov. 1 is Jersey Day.

The Whitehall High School cheerleaders will hold a Longaberger, Coach and Vera Bradley bingo Sunday, Oct. 27, at the American Club in Coplay.

Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available for 20 regular games and a specials. Door prizes and a Chinese auction will be featured.

Refreshments will be served.

The first movie night of the year will be held Friday, Nov. 1, in the middle school auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at 7:15 p.m.

"Hotel Transylvania" will be shown in celebration of Halloween. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.

Trick-or-treat goodies will be for sale. A basket raffle is planned and Christmas City Studios will be there to take pictures of children in costume.

Students from all the district schools are invited.

Oct. 30 is the end of the first marking period.

Elementary and middle school report cards will be distributed during the week of Nov. 12.
