To the editor:
As an alumni of Catasauqua High School, I was confused to hear that the football game against Palmerton this past weekend was considered "Homecoming." It has always been regarded, since before time itself began, that the Thanksgiving (Turkey Day) game played against Northampton has been Homecoming for Catasauqua, regardless of whether the game was played at home or away.
Thanksgiving is that heartwarming holiday in the fall which counteracts the newly felt chill in the air and beckons relatives to flock back to their birthplace, and which makes the holiday a homecoming in its own right. For the Turkey Day game, many younger alumni come home from college and older alumni flock back to the Iron Borough of their youth to meet and gather with family and friends and watch their alma mater battle against their nemesis and rival.
Turkey Day always has and always shall be the "true" Homecoming for Catasauqua, and I hope others feel as I do. As an alumni, I feel that Homecoming as an event should not be split away from Thanksgiving, and attempting to designate another game as such is counterintuitive.
I was not present this weekend for the game against Palmerton, however I will be there with bells on for the Turkey Day game being played at Muhlenberg College's Scotty Wood Stadium this year. Go Roughies!
