The Emmaus High School football team is in a must-win situation for the last two weeks of the season and it starts with this week's game against Nazareth.
The Green Hornets (5-2 in LVC, 5-3 overall) host the Blue Eagles (4-3, 5-3) Friday night at 7 p.m. at East Penn School District Stadium in their regular season home finale.
Emmaus comes home after suffering a crushing 19-7 defeat at the hands of Whitehall. The loss knocked the Hornets out of a tie for the Lehigh Valley Conference lead and hurt their district playoff chances as they slipped all the way to ninth in the Class AAAA district rankings.
Emmaus collides with Nazareth, which is riding a two-game winning streak and most recently defeated Central Catholic, 49-21. The Eagles are scrapping for a district or Eastern Conference spot as they are 10th in Class AAAA.
Emmaus' Wyl Miller, who missed last week with an injury, returned to practice on Monday and will play against Nazareth. The Blue Eagles counter with skill players in quarterback Justin Albert and running back Jordan Gray. The latter is nearing in on 1,000 rushing yards for 2013.
Head coach Randy Cuthbert wants to see more improvement from the offensive line this week and the passing game as this contest with Nazareth could turn into an offensive shootout.
After this week's game, Emmaus finishes its season against a Parkland team that is playing as well as any in the LVC.
This is not a situation the Hornets wanted to be in but, last week's loss put them in this predicament.
