Falcons look for second straight win

Following one of the team's most complete games of the season, the Salisbury football team is looking to build off this past weekend's win over Wilson.

The Falcons (2-6) will look to capture their second consecutive victory when they host Notre Dame-Green Pond (3-5) on Friday night at Salisbury High School.

While the Crusaders have lost their last four games of the season after beginning the season 3-1, the record can be deceiving. During the Crusaders' four-game skid against Southern Lehigh, Saucon Valley, Palisades and Pen Argyl, their opponents have outscored them by a mere 8.5 points per game.

"Our kids played really well," Cerco said. "They did what we asked them to do and it showed in the final score. Obviously there were some mistakes along the way, which we looked at [Monday] and corrected those mistakes. But overall, it's one of our most complete games.

"We're getting incrementally better in those areas, as far as finishing games and playing complete games. It's a step in the right direction for our program."

Every phase of the game offense, defense and special teams proved to be on point for the Falcons against the Warriors on Saturday. The Falcons are looking for that same type of performance against the Crusaders.

"Just overall, we were more consistent in our play," Cerco said. "That's the most impressive thing the consistency that we played with more often than not.

"We're going to need the same type of effort from our players all week in practice, which we expect to happen," Cerco said. "As long as we have a good week of practice, and come with the right attitude on Friday night, we should be in the ballgame and compete with Notre Dame."

The Crusaders have the personnel to be effective both in the running game against the Falcons.

Senior quarterback Kordell Theadford has provided the Crusaders with a number of key plays throughout the season. He has completed 68 of 155 pass attempts for 1,075 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He's also accumulated 191 yards and seven more touchdowns on the ground, making him a dual-threat option when he touches the football.

Senior tight end Owen Loughlin has been a consistent scoring threat in the passing game for Theadford. Through eight games, Loughlin has recorded 20 catches for 418 yards and seven touchdowns.

"Offensively, they have a pretty good game plan," Cerco said. "They have some good athletes that they like to highlight. Their quarterback is athletic. Their running backs run hard, and they have an offensive line that blocks well. They definitely present some problems in that respect."

Friday night will be senior night for the Falcons. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
