To the Editor:
Students in public schools have had some major changes in their dress code status. Uniforms are starting to be a requirement and I know we do not need uniforms!
Some people think uniforms will lower the incidents of bullying and rule violations but it will not. Bullies will keep bullying and rules will still be broken because changing clothing will not change the person.
For a fact, uniforms are extremely uncomfortable! I have worn a uniform and know they can be hard to handle, itchy and restrictive.
Obviously, we are not all the same and uniforms make us all look and feel the same.
Surprisingly, uniforms are majorly expensive with one school year outfit priced from $50 to $150.
Fascinatingly, in the First Amendment and I quote, "Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech..."
As it says, everyone has a freedom of speech meaning we are allowed to wear what we want!
Students, like me, should be allowed to express themselves through their clothing. No one wants to be told what they have to wear so let's make a stand together saying, "Time to stand up for our rights!"
