School uniforms not best choice for students

To the Editor:

Public schools have been requiring students to wear uniforms. Uniforms are not always the best idea.

First of all, kids would not get to show their personality and creativity with the constraints of uniforms. Without creativity, people are usually boring. No one wants to be considered boring do they? Especially teenagers.

Getting uniforms means everyone has to buy one. Have you ever thought about the cost? Uniforms these days can get pretty expensive.

What if someone cannot buy one because they do not have the money?

Of course conformity is a big reason why uniforms are not a good idea for middle schoolers. Conformity means "either being the same or having the same views."

In some situations conformity is not such a bad thing, but is that what you want in school? We certainly do not.

People need creativity to help them learn. We all cannot be the same; we each have different styles and personalities. That is what makes us who we are.

Here is the real question why do we go to school? Is it to learn about looking the same and losing the ability to choose?

No, we go to school to learn things that will help us to be creative and successful in our future. How can we learn to be creative if a dress code is forcing us to be something otherwise?

In other words, requiring uniforms is not the best choice for students who want the freedom to choose.
