Only three girls golfer could move on from last week's District 11 Class AAA Tournament to this week's PIAA East Regional. And two of those three players are Emmaus High School students.
Kelsey Patterson carded an 84 and won this year's District 11 Class AAA championship, while Sam Fritzinger's 95 earned her third place.
Both moved on and played in Tuesday's regional tournament. (See next week's press for coverage of that event.)
Patterson, who finished 16th at regionals in 2012, said putting allowed her to rise to the top at districts.
"My putting really kept me together," she said. "Putts that I had for par, that I would usually miss, would drop and save me from taking a bogey. That was huge."
The junior said experience will be a big factor in the East Regional, which was played at Golden Oaks Golf Club in Fleetwood.
"Last year I was really cowardly about it," she said. "I didn't think I belonged. So this year I'm looking forward to it and I'm thinking I have a good chance of moving on from regionals this time around."
Fritzinger, who is a freshman, looked forward to the opportunity to play in regionals.
"I just want to go out there and play my best," she said. "To do that I need to work on my driver and keep it straight so I can be the best I can be."
