Boys soccer seeks another LVC title

With the soccer postseason here, the Emmaus boys are playing some of their best soccer at the right time of the season. The regular season ended with an eight-game winning streak that saw the Hornets outscore their opponents 32-4, sending Emmaus (14-3-1) into the LVC playoffs as the conference's top seed and assuring them of a strong seed once the district brackets are released as well.

The LVC recognized four Emmaus players with bids to the all-conference team. Senior Justis Faulkner and junior Parker Landis were named to the first team, while seniors Charlie Jerry and Kevin Kender were given honorable mentions.

Landis leads the team with 18 goals and has gone no more than two games without scoring a goal and has nine of his goals during the current winning streak. Kender is second on the team with eight goals and has scored at least one goal in nearly every game that Landis has been held scoreless, except for one. Jerry hasn't tallied a goal this season, but is the runaway leader in assists with 19.

Faulkner is part of the Hornets defense that has toughened up during their recent streak and have allowed 19 goals in 18 games this season.

"We've definitely improved on some things," said coach John Cari. "We hit a rough patch in the middle of the season, where we just weren't in sync and our guys pulled out of that and started to play much better soccer and now, we're hot at the right time."

Cari was referring to a stretch where Emmaus lost two of three games and picked up a lackluster 1-0 win over Whitehall. The two losses included a 7-0 pounding by Parkland that was the low point of the season for the Hornets. Parkland (12-2-0) is the number two seed in the LVC playoffs, with Northampton seeded third and Easton fourth. While Emmaus lost to Parkland, they defeated Easton 3-0 and Northampton 3-1 during the regular season.

Emmaus has won the LVC Championship in six of the last eight seasons and went to the District 11 finals last season, missing a bid in the PIAA Tournament.
