Allentown Central Catholic High School offers a wonderful opportunity to its students through social outreach programs.

Since 2010, Central Catholic has been sponsoring the Central City Project, or CCP. It is a program that supports the surrounding Allentown community. CCP provides students the ability to reach past the walls of Central Catholic and into the Jordan Heights neighborhood that surrounds the high school. Central Catholic has a proud tradition of giving back to the community for more than 80 years and it continues to do so.

Participants in CCP tutor students at The Boys and Girls Club on Sixth and Green streets, as well as at St. John Vianney Regional Elementary School. Students can also help maintain the urban garden or take part in community dinners where the needy are provided a home-cooked meal and served restaurant style, among a multitude of other services.

Viking Salsa is another CCP project. It is student-made from the vegetables, spices and herbs grown under the care of Central students in the urban garden. An amazing amount of time and work is put into each batch of the "all natural, all healthy and no sugar" delicacy.

All proceeds from sales of Viking Salsa go back to the community, helping provide aid to those who need help the most. Students are always happy to make this product, despite the inordinate amount of time it takes.

More information on the Central City Project can be found on Central's website, www.acchs.info under the "Student Life" tab.
