Valley television productions win regional Emmy awards
Lehigh Valley television productions have received Emmy awards from The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Mid-Atlantic Chapter at the 2013 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards in Philadelphia.
"The Peak," received a Human Interest Program Feature Emmy for "Laughing at My Nightmare."
Accepting the award Sept. 7 were Ashley Russo, Creator and Executive Producer of "The Peak"; Ken Szydlow, Executive Producer; Shane Burcaw, Producer; and Rocky Urich and Julia Urich of FireRock Productions.
"Laughing at My Nightmare" tells the inspirational story of Shane Burcaw, a student who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
"This is such an honor for 'The Peak' in our first year as a show. We're trying to tell the in-depth, good-news stories of the Lehigh Valley. We follow people's journeys through good times and tough times, but we always have a positive spin," Russo said.
"The Peak," a 30-minute regional newsmagazine show about medical news, healthy recipes, ways to stay fit, financial wellness and volunteering, is telecast at 6:30 p.m. Sundays, WFMZ, Channel 69, with past episodes on ThePEAKTV.com,

EMediaWorks received its fifth consecutive Emmy, this time in the Children-Youth-Teen Program or Special category for "My Friend Ryan," a program for teachers and students to raise awareness about Aspberger's Syndrome.
Middle school student Ryan McGibbon offers insight and advice to help prevent bullying in schools.
The award was presented to Teri Haddad, producer; Scott Paul, director; and Brandon Pousley, editor. Haddad and Pousley accepted the award.

EMediaWorks was Emmy-nominated for "Stop, Drop, Roll," a program sponsored by the Burn Prevention Network that demonstrates what youths should do if their clothes catch on fire; and "Harrisburg Case Studies," a program sponsored by the Pennsylvania Autism Initiative that follows the progress of teachers and students in the Harrisburg Area School District over the course of one school year.

PBS39 reporter and producer Grover Silcox was announcer for the Emmy awards ceremony Sept. 7 at the Sheraton Society Hill, Philadelphia.
Silcox, a three-time Emmy- award winner, has been a reporter and producer with PBS39 for six years.
He wrote, produced and narrated the 2013 documentary "Bringing New Life to Old Steel," which showed how the Bethlehem Steel site was transformed into a vibrant community and serves as an economic model for other cities across the United States.
In addition to working on PBS39's "Tempo InDepth" and the new community affairs show, "Focus," which premiered Sept. 20, Silcox is a humorist and performer. His Edgar Allan Poe performance will be featured in an upcoming episode of "Focus" set to air next month.
