Roughies are still league's top team

After playing its last two games in its home stadium, the Salisbury football team will hit the road for the next two.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, the road ahead doesn't get any easier.

The Falcons (1-2) will travel to Catasauqua on Friday night for a matchup against the Rough Riders (3-0), the lone remaining undefeated team in the Colonial League and last season's league champion with a 10-0 mark.

The Rough Riders' offense is arguably the most dynamic in the Colonial League. In their first three contests, the Rougies have averaged 49 points per game and their 62 against Southern Lehigh is the most by any Colonial League team this season by far. No other team has yet to hit 50.

"They have some really good football players," Salisbury head coach Andy Cerco said. "We're just going to coach our guys up and get better at what we do. They'll be ready to play. Hopefully we can execute our techniques and our schemes, and our players can do what we ask them to do. If they do that, then that's a good night."

The Rough Riders had three First-Team All-Colonial League selections last season at the offensive skill positions. With all of them returning, it's no wonder Catasauqua's offense has hit the ground running.

Senior running back Ra'Von Burton, who had 1,615 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns last season, has 490 yards on the ground to go along with seven scores through three games.

"They have some really talented players," Cerco said. "We just have to match up the best we can and play hard."

Senior quarterback Zack Bradley has passed for 645 yards and nine touchdowns thus far. What's even more impressive is the fact that he's yet to throw an interception.

One of Bradley's biggest targets on the outside is wide receiver Paryss Marshall. He has 18 receptions for 356 yards and five touchdowns this season.

"Overall, they're a good football team," Cerco said. "They don't make a lot of mistakes, and they play really hard.

"They've been able to shut down a lot of the offenses that they've seen so far. Just overall, they're a good football team."

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Catasauqua High School.
