One of Salisbury's biggest Achilles' heels last field hockey season was in the scoring department.
The Falcons (0-2) have started off this year's Colonial League season with many of those same struggles. In their first two games, the Falcons have been shutout by a combined 9-0 at the hands of Palisades (3-0) and Saucon Valley (6-0).
Despite the early season struggles, head coach Liz Jordon remains confident in her team and realizes there is still plenty of field hockey left to play.
"They've had a history of losing, and so they're prepared for one thing - playing defense," said Jordon.
"And then they have this mindset that we've always got to be on guard, instead of having the mindset that says we score."
While the team is still looking for their first win of the season, Jordon and the Falcons have used those losses as learning curves for the rest of the season. They've been able to build off certain aspects of their first two games in hopes of getting on track.
"As long as you're learning something from a loss, you don't really lose in a different kind of sense," said Jordon. "We look at what we can possibly learn from the most recent loss. We look at what the other team did that we like that we can adopt ourselves.
"I really do think that they understand that it's about what you learn every time you step onto the field. I think we're good."
The Falcons will have three games this week in search of that first win. They'll travel to Wilson on Wednesday, followed by a matchup against Southern Lehigh on Friday. Both games are set to begin at 4 p.m.
"I have complete faith in these girls," said Jordon. "I believe in them."
Results from Tuesday's game against Moravian Academy were not available at time of press.
