Christopher Hoenscheid named George Wolf acting principal
A longtime Northampton Area School District educator has been named acting principal of George Wolf Elementary School, Bath.
Christopher Hoenscheid was approved by a 7-0 vote at the Aug. 12 school board meeting, with two school board members absent, to the position for the first semester of the 2013-14 school year, with no change in salary or benefits, with a stipend of $5,500.
After the meeting, Hoenscheid told The Press the new school year, which began Aug. 26, is his 15th year at George Wolf where he has been a fourth-grade teacher.
Hoenscheid, who attended NASD from kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated in 1988, earned a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Pittsburgh, teaching certification from Millersville University and a principal certification from Drexel University.
He and his wife, Deanne, live in Emmaus with their son, Ian, 4.
In other business, the board approved the following long-term substitute teachers based on the terms of collective bargaining agreements:
· Andrea Wells, George Wolf Elementary School, for the first semester of the 2013-14 school year at a salary of $46,050, prorated, without benefits;
· William Neal, Siegfried Elementary School, at $46,850 with benefits;
· Laura Meyers, Lehigh Elementary School, for the first semester of the 2013-14 school year at $46,050, prorated, without benefits;
· Sara Makovsky, Lehigh Elementary School, for the 2013-14 school year at $46,050 with benefits;
· Candy Rosenbauer, reading specialist at the middle school, for the 2013-14 school year at $49,198 with benefits;
Other personnel hired include:
· Amanda Roberts, short-term substitute instructional support teacher in borough schools through Nov. 30, at the per diem of $125, without benefits;
· Jason Gray, technology assistant, at $16.36 per hour, with limited benefits, contingent upon receipt of acceptable clearances;
· Richard Gladish, security guard, at $18.02 per hour, without benefits, contingent upon receipt of acceptable clearances and drug test results;
· Stacey Kolonia as traffic monitor for the middle school for the 2012-13 school year with retroactive payment of timesheets for $801.32;
· Devin Morris, continued temporary custodian at the middle school at $12.13 per hour, without benefits;
The board also approved the following:
· Resignation of Dr. Alex Feig as school dental consultant, effective June 30, after more than 30 years of service to NASD.
· Appointment of Dr. Walter Schuster as NASD dental consultant with $200 annual stipend effective July 1.
The board additionally approved:
· The transfer of Tina Carnathan from hall monitor at Siegfried Elementary School to instructional assistant at the middle school.
· A contract between NASD and Andra Groller as the diversified occupations program supervisor for the 2013-14 school year. Groller's stipend will not exceed $12,000 for the 2013-14 school year. The contract terminates June 30, 2014.
· An employment agreement between the NASD and Robyn Ginther as the middle school health and physical education teacher for the 2013-14 school year at $80,587 with benefits.
The board accepted the resignations of Sally Whittaker-Kahan as head softball coach, effective July 31; Matthew Decembrino as social studies teacher and team leader, effective July 29; Janet Grantz, library instructional assistant, for early retirement, effective Dec. 20; Donna Mack, instructional assistant, for early retirement, effective Aug. 12; Linda Siekonic as special education instructional assistant, effective July 25; Nathan Strohl, long-term substitute German teacher, effective Aug. 5; and Damien Ciecwisz, security guard, effective Aug. 6.
