Acting borough assistant principal introduced

The Northampton Borough Elementary Schools have an acting principal for the 2013-14 school year.

Carol Cunningham was introduced at the Aug. 26 Northampton Area School Board meeting.

The borough elementary schools include Siegfried and Franklin.

Prior to becoming an acting principal, Cunningham has been a math instructional support teacher and head teacher for grades three to six.

Cunningham, in her 31st year as an educator, received a bachelor's degree in education from Kutztown University and principal certification from Cabrini College.

She has been a Catasauqua Area School Board member for 10 years and is vice president of the board. She lives with her husband, Howard, and their two children, Greg and Abby, in Catasauqua.

At the board meeting, at the recommendation of the administration, school board members also approved the following resignations by voice vote:

· Meredith Foster as short-term substitute elementary teacher, effective Aug. 12.

· Kristen Motsko as special education instructional assistant, effective Aug. 13.

· John Gerancher, custodian, effective on or about June 30, 2014.

· Mary Pritchett as spring musical vocal director-advisor, effective Aug. 19.

· Caitlin Donnangelo as spring musical choreographer, effective Aug. 20.

The board approved family leave, with benefits to Wilburt Bullsnake, effective July 15-Aug. 16, and Sandra Leindecker, effective Aug. 26-Sept. 16, as per federal regulations.

Other items approved by the board include:

· The transfer of Ann Reinhard from instructional assistant at George Wolf Elementary to instructional assistant at Moore Elementary School for the 2013-14 school year.

· Professional teaching staff employees as potential homebound instructors, effective Aug. 26-June 30, 2014. In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between NASD and the Northampton Area Education Association, the hourly rate for homebound instruction is $45.69 per hour for those with a bachelor's degree and $50.15 per hour for those with a master's degree.

· Erik Litsch, social studies teacher at Northampton Area Middle School, effective retroactive to Aug. 19 at an annual salary of $46,050 with benefits.

· Kelly Muschlitz, short-term substitute at Lehigh Elementary School, effective retroactive to Aug. 19 for the first marking period of the 2013-14 school year, at the per diem rate of $125, without benefits.

· Barbara Kocher, special education instructional assistant at Moore Elementary School, effective retroactive to Aug. 19 at $10.77 per hour with benefits.

· James Kazakos, security officer, effective retroactive to Aug. 16 at $18.02 per hour without benefits.

· Andrew Snyder, special education instructional assistant at the Northampton Area Middle School, effective retroactive to Aug. 19 at $10.77 per hour with benefits.

· Christine Marto, long-term substitute German teacher at the Northampton Area High School, effective retroactive to Aug. 19, for the first semester of the 2013-14 school year at a salary of $46,050, without benefits.

· Position for a one-to-one associate teacher to support a NASD student who will attend the IU-20 Life Skills Support classroom at George Wolf Elementary School. This position will be paid through a contract with the IU not to exceed $35,000.

· Angela Munjone, after-school detention monitor at the Northampton Area High School, effective for the 2013-14 school year at an hourly rate of $50.15 with no benefits.

· Contract with Whitehall-Coplay School District for special education programming for the 2013-14 school year up to and including the 2015-16 school year.
