Local cyclists from Sprinters Edge Track Development Team, coached by Andrew Harris, took the podium for several events at the recent Junior National Track Championship at Trexlertown's Valley Preferred Cycling Center.
After qualifying in the top spot with a time of 11.089, James Mellen (above left), rising senior at Parkland High School, took gold in the match sprint. James followed the match sprint victory with a win in the team sprint on day two of the competition.
Mellen also secured a bronze medal in the keirin event.
Based on his win in the match sprint and team sprint, James has been selected as a member of the national team representing the US in Glasgow, Scotland, for the UCI Junior World Championships in August.
In the 13-14 age group Allyson Wasielewski (above center), a rising freshman at Central Catholic High School, claimed silver in the points race, the scratch race and 500-meter time trial (40.011). She also earned the silver medal in the overall omnium competition.
Eva Burke (above right), a rising eighth grader at Lower Macungie Middle School, clinched bronze in the points race, the 500 meter time trial (41.529) and bronze in the overall omnium competition.
In the 10-12 age group, Brittany Bardman (not pictured), a rising sixth grader at The Swain School, took the fifth-place medal in the 500-meter time trial, placed fifth in the scratch race and claimed fifth in the overall omnium.
