Jefferson kids enjoy Olympics
This week was Camp Olympics.
We started off the week with silent ball until the counselors were ready to draft the campers into different teams. After the campers were drafted, team names were chosen.
The campers really showed their creative and silly side coming up with their team names. The blue team named their team the Blue Unicorns. The green team named their team the Green Goblins. The red team became the Red Bandits and the yellow team was the Golden Hawks.
For our first official camp Olympic game, the campers played knock out with the Blue Unicorns winning. The next game, jump the river, resulted in a tie between the Golden Hawks and Green Goblins.
We started off our second day of camp Olympics with an obstacle course. The campers were super pumped to show the counselors how fast they could complete it. The Red Bandits dominated the obstacle course finishing with a time of 11 minutes and 52 seconds.
Next, we started our kickball tournament with the Blue Unicorns finishing first, Red Bandits second, Green Goblins third and the Golden Hawks coming in last. Next, Aikido Masters Self-Defense Academy visited and showed the campers some self-defense techniques. After that, the campers ended the day at the pool.
Wednesday was a perfect day to go to see the IronPigs. The IronPigs played the Red Wings. The kids enjoyed the music, food and other activities the game had to offer. The day ended perfectly with the Iron Pigs winning 2-1.
Both camps reunited at Camp Cementon and it was really great to finally be able to get together after five weeks.
Thursday was a washout because of the rain but that didn't mean we couldn't enjoy the indoors. The counselors put on the movie "Transformers 3" and passed out popcorn to all the campers lying down on their towels.
Campers who didn't want to watch the movie did the craft of the week instead. This week's craft was duct tape art. The campers really showed their creativity making wallets, bows, purses and other things.
Later in the day, one of the locals named Tony visited our camp and kindly showed the campers his pet turtle, Sparkling Rose. The campers learned some interesting facts about turtles and also got to hold and pet Sparkling Rose. It was an unexpected but welcomed visit. Although we didn't get to the pool because of the bad weather, we definitely enjoyed ourselves.
Friday ended our Olympic week. We held a dodge ball tournament and a pillow polo tournament. The Red Bandits were on a victory streak, winning both tournaments. Later at the pool, we held a contest for which camper had the biggest splash and wackiest jump. In the end, Red Bandits won with an overall score of 20.
Our campers of the week were Jade and Connor.
