Campers enjoy Olympic games
Campers began week six by reciting the Olympic Oath to commence Olympic week at Camp Cementon.
With five teams picked and original superhero names decided, it was time to begin the games.
On Monday, campers focused on team building games and activities, which included picking a name for their team (for example, my team was the blue Yetahs, a combination of a Yeti and a cheetah), decorating their team posters, as well as cheering their teammates on while playing games such as hungry, hungry giant and fastest in the west.
Campers stayed true to the Olympic theme on Tuesday by competing in real Olympic events such as a running relay, shot put and a 100-meter dash.
By Wednesday, it was time to take the campers out to the ballgame. We arrived at the IronPigs stadium with baseball caps on and foam fingers in hand. Everyone was so excited to spend a beautiful day at Coca-Cola Park watching our home team play the Rochester Red Wings.
Campers were split up into groups and were able to take in all that the IronPigs experience had to offer. Some campers spent time watching the game intently while many walked around the stadium playing games and eating everything from Aw Shucks corn to frozen yogurt. Campers left the game with smiles on their faces and a revived spirit for our Olympic games as the day ended with a 2-1 win from the Iron Pigs.
Rain covered the sky on Thursday but that did not deter our campers from taking part in classic minute to win it games. Campers gathered around and cheered on their teammates in activities such as trying to get an Oreo from the forehead to the mouth using only facial muscles, a cup from point A to point B using a straw, wrapping a partner with toilet paper without breaking it, dividing M&Ms by color using only one hand and putting back together snack boxes like a puzzle. These games sparked team building and many campers experienced these activities for the very first time.
The week flew by and we ended the games with a classic battle ball tournament and an iconic water game competition that included the biggest splash, doggie paddle race, most bobs, craziest jump, an underwater quest for pennies and a team relay to tie it all together.
All of the campers ended the week as Olympic champions. Week six definitely proved to be a memorable one. Mackenzie L. and R.J. W. were our wonderful campers of the week.
The summer is flying by and Camp Cementon is having its best summer yet!
