Vacation days are slipping by quickly. My daughter, Robin, who teaches in Tuscon, started school Aug. 1. In the Lehigh Valley, the children have about two more weeks before the bell rings for them. There is still quite a bit of activity around the area to keep folks busy.
The best in country music is available at the Alburtis Park Sundays 3 to 7 p.m. including Aug. 18 - Bill Murray and the Crossover Band; Aug. 25 - Armed Forces Day with Country Rhythm; Sept. 1 - One Night Stand; Sept. 2 - The Outlaws with Crazy Elmer; Sept. 8 - Tracy Lee Band; Sept. 15 - Closing Jamboree, bands are to be announced. The park is located at 328 S. Main Street, next to the fire company.
The Camp Fire Girls will begin meetings in September. Girls interested in joining should call Hope at 610-966-4663. The first hoagie sale will be held in September.
The borough office will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, Labor Day.
Labor Day is also the time to get in that last swim of the season at the Alburtis pool.
The senior citizens meet noon Aug. 21 at the Gun Club on Gun Club Road.

The Alburtis Lock Ridge Historical Society, Church and Franklin streets, will resume meetings Thursday, September 12, 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
The society will have an open house 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Alubrtis Area Community Center is available for birthday parties, wedding receptions, showers, etc. Call 610-966-2954 or their website www.aacconline. org. The center is located on Walnut and West Second streets.
Bingo will resume at the community center in late September or early October. Watch for the date.
