Camp Jefferson column
Week five at Camp Jefferson was full of many new games.
On Monday, the campers split into two groups. One group and two counselors played knock out while the other group and two counselors played hungry, hungry giant and fastest in the west. After about a half hour the groups switched to play the other games. Campers then enjoyed playing jump the river, had free time in the park until lunch and then spent the afternoon splashing in the pool.
Camp Jefferson spent Tuesday at Dutch Springs. It was the first time for many of the campers and two of the counselors. The excitement on the campers' faces when they saw the giant icebergs floating on the water was priceless.
Once the campers had on their life jackets, they spent the day going down the aqua slides, racing each other on the floating obstacle course, conquering the icebergs and having fun on other floating inflatables.
After lunch, some campers threw on their sneakers and attempted the sky challenge made up of a rock-climbing wall and a high ropes course that towered more than two-stories high. By the end of the day the campers and counselors were exhausted.
The craft for the week was scratch art. Whoever wanted to participate was given paper and crayons. The campers colored the sheet of paper with all colors in any pattern that they wanted. Once they were done coloring, camp counselors Erin and Chloe painted over them with two coats of black paint and let them dry. Campers were eager to get them on Thursday and scratch out cool the designs.
We then played handball and soccer, which many campers enjoyed. After much running around, everyone went inside to cool down and play relaxing games of night at the museum and sleeping lions.
Thursday ended up being an unusually cool day for July. We spent it inside and had a huge pillow polo tournament with six teams and their designated captains. Counselor John refereed the game and made sure everyone played fair. The campers really liked playing the game.
The pool water was freezing on Thursday, so not many campers went swimming. Instead many played four square and a new game called kan-jam, played with two buckets and a frisbee. The idea is to throw the frisbee to your partner to try to knock it into the bucket. A slit is cut into each bucket and if someone gets the frisbee inside the slit the team wins the whole game. The campers had a blast playing kan-jam and trying to beat out the counselor team of Erin and Chloe.
Friday's theme was to dress up as something you want to be when you grow up, or in a Halloween costume. The campers outfits where very creative. They ranged from a waitress to an angel and ghoul. Counselor Francheska participated, dressing up as a guidance counselor.
We played kickball, dodge ball and multiple rounds of manhunt on Friday. Since the pool water wasn't too cold, we also played water polo. Everyone enjoyed playing the new games this week and had a wonderful time at Dutch Springs.
Our campers of the week were Marissa and Arturo. Great job, campers!
