Camp Cementon column
Week five at camp Cementon was full of fun and excitement.
The theme this week was "safari" and the kids enjoyed many new animal games and our awesome trip to the zoo.
The campers came bright and early Monday morning, rested up from the weekend and ready to play. The games ranged from fastest in the west to my personal favorite, battle ball.
We also threw in some new games this week, such as one called "ice." We took small Dixie cups and filled them with water and placed a small prize in them. After they were frozen we handed them out to each kid. They had to melt them so they could get to the prize, which happened to be a penny.
Tuesday is craft day at Camp Cementon. This week we made paper plate animals. Many different animals created that day include elephants, lions and snakes. Some of the kids got very creative. One camper named Josh made a three-dimensional turtle.
Wednesday we went on our weekly field trip to the Lehigh Valley Zoo. The animals ranged from kangaroos to counselor Megan's favorite, the penguin. Another favorite was the sloth; everyone thought it was such a cool animal because of the way it clung to the instructor. The trip ended up being very educational. Everyone learned something new about animals and also the importance of preserving the environment.
Once a week, we do a service project and give back to the community. This week we made homemade dog treats for Peaceable Kingdom. They were very messy but still lots of fun for the kids.
Friday was our dress-up day with everyone wearing animal prints. A couple of our campers went all out – campers Mike and Caroline went to a craft store the night before to prepare their outfits for the next day.
On Friday Sean C. and Kayla H. were selected as our campers of the week.
Everybody is looking forward to many more fun-filled days at camp!
